The overall objective of the SE-ZERT® Level B training is to enable participants to apply the methods and procedures of systems engineering in all their facets within the context of moderately complex system tasks, to identify and utilize interrelationships, and to apply their knowledge to problem-solving. The primary learning objective for Modules 1 through 9 is “application,” whereas in the areas of requirements management, V&V, SE management, and implementation processes, the learning objective is “mastery.”

The following knowledge is taught as part of the SE-ZERT® Level B program:

• Practical knowledge of systems engineering and systems engineering management
• Knowing, understanding, and confidently applying technical terminology and symbols,
• Applying subject-specific methods and procedures and using them to gain insights,
• The ability to manage a moderately complex project with all its parameters or a subproject of a complex project with the corresponding parameters, and to assume the corresponding technical responsibility within a project,
• The ability to responsibly lead a small multidisciplinary team

Any person who holds a valid Level C certificate, has the above experience and degree, has completed training based on the Level B curriculum with an approved training provider, and submits proof of 80% attendance upon registration is eligible to take the exam.

As an alternative to the Level C certificate, it is also possible to gain admission to the training and the Level B exam in a single attempt by taking a lateral entry exam based on Level C. This exam lasts 60 minutes and consists of 20 questions (15 multiple-choice and 5 open-ended questions). The exam is arranged through the training provider with SE-TREC GmbH and follows a similar format to the standard exams. It is recommended to book a few days of preparation time with the selected training provider, especially for the open-ended questions.

The certificate is valid for 3 years. Recertification is required to renew the certificate.

If a participant fails the exam, they may request to retake it at the next available opportunity, but no sooner than one month after the results are announced. After failing the exam three times, the participant must repeat the course before being readmitted to the exam.
